COVID-19: Total recovery rise to 83 people in Ghana with 5 new infections

Ghana has made gains in its covid-19 fight in the last 24 hours as the country on Wednesday recorded a significant number of recoveries from the deadly virus with marginal new infections.

Just a day after 17 persons diagnosed with the virus  were cleared as clinically cured, another batch of 66 persons have also been cured bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 83 as at April 15.

For the first time in days, just five new infections were recorded to put the national tally at 641 from the previous 636.

There was however no new death. Ghana’s death tally currently stands at eight.

“As of 14th April 2020, at 23:00HRS, a total of 50,719 persons have been tested with 641 being positive for COVID-19,” the Ghana Health Service announced on its covid-19 website Wednesday night.

It explained that while 17 of them have been treated and reverted to negative on repeat tests have been discharged, a further 66 people have also tested negative once and awaiting second test.

“This brings together a total of 83 cases that have been recovered / discharged. 548 cases have been categorised as mild disease and are on treatment, two are categorized as moderate to severe cases, none in critical state currently and eight (8) have died” it said.

Which areas are the new cases from?

All the five new cases were recorded in the Greater Accra Region.

One was recorded in the Adenta Municipality while two each were from Ayawaso East and Ayawaso Central municipalities.

“With the exception of one of the cases from Ayawaso East, all the new cases are asymptomatic. Contacts of the new cases are being listed for follow up,” the health officials announced.

Of the total number of cases, 268 were reported from from the routine surveillance while 258 from enhanced surveillance activities and 115 from travellers who were previously under mandatory quarantine in Accra and Tamale.

The covid-19 cases have currently been confirmed in 10 of the 16 regions. They are Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Western, Volta, Northern, North East, Upper East, and Upper West regions.
